Can I use rosemary oil on my hair and scalp for a massage, or does it HAVE to be diluted w/ a carrier oil?

Im trying to stimulate my hair growth rate and heard that rosemary oil is an excellent way of doing this. however, i am unsure if applying it straight from the bottle to my scalp is the best way to go, or if i should combine it with a carrier oil such as jojoba which i hear has excellent moisturizing elements. my hair is dry and thick and I would like to know if this mixture of the two oils will help at all. Also, i am absloutely stumped as to how much rosemary oil to use per teaspoon of jojoba or if should use any at all. If anyone lives in the Dallas area and knows a reputable manufacturer where i can purchase High-Quality, pure oils, I'd really appreciate the feedback.

Can I use rosemary oil on my hair and scalp for a massage, or does it HAVE to be diluted w/ a carrier oil?
You can also mix it with a conditioner %26amp; let it sit on your hair for about 15min %26amp; then rinse out.

I've also heard that peppermint oil is good for stimulating the scalp.

Reply:Yes, you should use rosemary essential oil mixed with a carrier oil. Jojoba oil is an excellent choice. Jojoba oil is very light weight and very moisturizing for your scalp, skin and hair.

I buy jojoba oil and essential oils at my local whole foods store. They usually have a good selection and decent prices.

Is it okay to eat rosemary when pregnant? In moderation?

I have heard somewhere that rosemary isn't a good herb during pregnancy that it could loosen the uterus or something but only if in excess. Does any1 know anything about this and did you/have you eaten at least some rosemary while pregnant? I am 23 weeks and ate some chicken that had rosemary in it not a whole lot just some. and I hardly ever eat rosemary. Is this okay or safe?

Is it okay to eat rosemary when pregnant? In moderation?
I am pretty sure its rosemary leaf a herb found in different herbal tablets you can get from your health food store that is the problem during the early stages of pregnancy. It can cause contractions in the uterus they don't recommend using it in the first 2 trimesters. If your worried you should give your doctor a call they should be able to answer a question like that over the phone.
Reply:Foods seasoned with rosemary are not a problem. Taking large amounts of the herb is not advised during pregnancy. Don't worry, chicken flavored with rosemary is not going to harm your baby. Everything in moderation is the key
Reply:hope so, i did :) I would have the rosemary chicken at my favorite place at least 1 a week..my baby is a healthy 5 months old :)
Reply:Culinary amounts of herbs are just fine and not a problem. However it is large amounts or tea made from herbs taken regularly that can be a problem. Go for it! Chicken soup with rosemary is awesome.

people eat them all so i don't think they are
Reply:Nope, they are not poisinous because we commenly eat them. Sassafrass bark can be poisinous, though.

This website will give you information on all the herbs. Many herbs can be safe if used appropriately. For example sassafras roots boiled for tea may be healthy but the concentrated oil may have a toxic effect. I don't know of any toxic effects of rosemary or mint but you should do your research on how you plan to eat them.
Reply:I know mint or roemary is safe people cook with it never heard of the other
Reply:No. Mint, Rosemary, and Sassafrass are not poisoness. In fact, they are all edible. Mints and rosemary are used for delicious recipes and sassafrass can be used to make candy. You can read more about some of these herbs at http://www.bluelabelherbs.com. They have some great information on herbs and if you have questions you can ask their growers in their forum.

Reply:We eat them all the time. No need for a web site. Think spaghetti sauce, mint juleps and root beer or sarsparilla.
Reply:rosemary is a delicious herb to flavor just about any kind of meat, from beef to pork. Mint is used as a flavoring in TONS of stuff.

These sure aren't poisionous. I don't think they would sell Mint leaves and rosemary in the produce section of grocery stores if it was poisonous!!!!

Sassafrass? Probably not since it is used to make delicious drinks at country fairs and such :)
Reply:i'm going to say no since they are common spices that are often used in cooking.

Rosemary - what to do with the flowers???

I have grown some Rosemary for cooking. The plant has little blue/lavender coloured flowers all over it. I wanted to freeze the Rosemary but do I have to pick off all the flowers or are they edible? do they taste ok? will they be ok to freeze???

Rosemary - what to do with the flowers???
They've gone to seed when they flower, and the taste becomes somewhat bitter and more pungent. You don't need to freeze it. I just hang it in bunches in the garage to dry and then pinch off what I need from time to time. It's best to harvest rosemary before it flowers.
Reply:Do not freeze them dry them in a paper bag in a warm cupboard. I normally wait until all the flowers are gone before I do mine.
Reply:They are not okay to freeze. They are okay to dry in a warm place and, yes, they are edible.

What are the health benefits of essiac tea and rosemary tea?

Most people take essiac tea (in an aggressive dose) as an alternative (complementary or supplementary) treatment to conventional cancer treatment. Some take it because they have studied the available information on essiac, and believe it reduces the side effects of chemotherapy or radiation. The decision on whether to combine essiac use with traditional treatments is up to each individual. There is no evidence that essiac interferes with other pharmaceutical or natural treatments. In many cases, essiac seems to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and can complement other natural remedies. Please inform your health care provider if you decide to use essiac (or anything else) as a supplemental treatment.

Some people mainly take essiac (in a maintenance dose) as a daily supplement to promote general overall well-being, or as a preventive measure against many forms of disease, possibly due to its immune system-enhancing properties.

Many people give essiac to their pets, believing it reduces the agony of arthritis and extends the life (and/or improves the quality of life) of pets with terminal cancer and other ailments.

What are some of the reported benefits of essiac tea?

1. Prevents the buildup of excess fatty deposits in artery walls, heart, kidney and liver.

2. Regulates cholesterol levels by transforming sugar and fat into energy.

3. Destroys parasites in the digestive system and throughout the body.

4. Helps counteract the effects of aluminum, lead and mercury poisoning.

5. Strengthens and tightens muscles, organs and tissues.

6. Makes bones, joints, ligaments, lungs, and membranes strong and flexible, consequently less vulnerable to stress or stress injuries.

7. Nourishes and stimulates the brain and nervous system.

8. Promotes the absorption of fluids in the tissues.

9. Removes toxic accumulations in the fat, lymph, bone marrow, bladder, and alimentary canals.

10. Neutralizes acids, absorbs toxins in the bowel, and eliminates both.

More reported benefits of essiac tea:

11. Clears the respiratory channels by dissolving and expelling mucus.

12. Relieves the liver of its burden of detoxification by converting fatty toxins into water-soluble substances that can then be easily eliminated through the kidneys.

13. Assists the liver to produce lecithin, which forms part of the myelin sheath, a white fatty material that encloses nerve fibers.

14. Reduces, perhaps eliminates, heavy metal deposits in tissues (especially those surrounding the joints) to reduce inflammation and stiffness.

15. Improves the functions of the pancreas and spleen by increasing the effectiveness of insulin.

16. Purifies the blood.

17. Increases red cell production, and keeps the cells from rupturing.

18. Increases the body's ability to utilize oxygen by raising the oxygen level in the tissue cells.

19. Maintains the balance between potassium and sodium within the body so that the fluid inside and outside each cell is regulated: in this way, cells are nourished with nutrients and are also cleansed.

20. Converts calcium and potassium oxalates into a harmless form by making them solvent in the urine. Regulates the amount of oxalic acid delivered to the kidneys, reducing the risk of stone formation in the gall bladder, kidneys, and/or urinary tract.

And there are even more benefits of essiac tea, according to The Essiac Handbook:

21. Protects against toxins entering the brain.

22. Protects the body against radiation and X-rays.

23. Relieves pain, increases the appetite, and provides more energy along with a sense of well-being.

24. Speeds up wound healing by helping to regenerate the damaged area.

25. Increases the production of antibodies like lymphocytes and T-cells in the thymus gland, which is the defender of our immune system.

26. Inhibits (and possibly destroys) benign growths and tumors.

27. Protects the cells against free radicals.

28. Decreases sugar cravings due to better blood sugar control.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about rosemary tea.

What are the health benefits of essiac tea and rosemary tea?
I knew a lady who took essiac tea regularly every day for cancer. She died...and it tastes kinda nasty too...and expensive

Essiac is the name of a lady in canada (spelled backwards, so her name was Caisse) and she cured herself of an incurable ailment with this mixture of American Indian medical herbs that she got from a shaman I believe...I think there is slippery elm in it and it tastes kind of like slick...kind of licoricey..???. I tasted it once and that was enough for me..here is a link to the website for it

Use Rosemary Tea as a mouthwash for bad breath.

How do you cook farmed trout I added rosemary but it still tastes?

Pan Fried Trout

Reluctant Gourmet’s Tips

1. Use a cast iron fry pan for this meal if you have one.

2. Try margarine instead of butter to reduce smoking.

Pan Fried Trout with Eggs %26amp; Fried Potatoes

Cooking Technique = Pan Fry

INGREDIENTS2 Tablespoons margarine

Trout, fresh caught if possible and cleaned

Bacon Fry Coating Mix

1 onion, chopped

4-5 Idaho potatoes, cubed

1 egg for coating, farm fresh if possible

eggs, as many as you like to eat for breakfast

PREP WORK Cleaning the fish: We cleaned the fish just after we caught them by gutting them, cutting off the gills, and most importantly, scraping off the blood line off the backbone.

Chop the onion, cube the potatoes and you are ready to start.

HOW TO MAKE AT HOMEHeat margarine in your fry pan over medium high heat. If you use butter, lower the heat a little to prevent smoking. Add onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes, then add potato. Cook until potato softens up a little, approximately 10 minutes. Make room for the fish.

Rinse the fish under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel. Drying will prevent the fish from steaming when you cook it.

Place fish into egg and coat with Bacon Fry Coating Mix. We used Krusteary Bacon Fry Coating Mix, but I'm not sure this is available outside of McCall, Idaho.

Add fish to the fry pan and cook until golden brown and the meat separates from the backbone. Another way to test for doneness is when the dorsal and pectoral fins pull out easily.

Remove the fish, onions, and potatoes to a plate, cover with foil to keep warm. Cook your eggs any way you please in the fry pan and serve with fish, onions, and potatoes.

How do you cook farmed trout I added rosemary but it still tastes?
I always put butter , onion , pepper, salt and a slice of rasher. Cover is tin foil and in a preheated oven for half an hour.
Reply:It's imprtant, Very important to make sure u clean and gut the trout real well! try not to touch the meat and get the scales all over or your trout will taste fishy, filleting is the best way to go though, fry in butter- mmm the best with fresh lemon! don't forget, KEEP SCALES OFF THE MEAT!
Reply:surely thats a good thing that your trout tastes of something...? Not sure I would add rosemary to trout though - a bit too overpowering perhaps.
Reply:I put some flour and some salt and pepper in a plastic bag. Then I add the cleaned but still whole trout to the bag and give it a good shake.

Then I heat good quality olive oil in a heavy duty cast iron frying pan (le cruetset or something like that) to a depth of a centimetre or so.

Then I take the trout out of the bag and shake it to get ride of any excess flour. Then add to the apn and fry on each side for about 8 minutes depending on the size of the fish. When the skin easily comes away from the meat it is cooked.

Then serve.

Fresh trout will always taste a bit 'soily' that's it's taste. Nothing wrong with it - in fact I enjoy the taste - like jersey potatoes and will sometimes splash out (geddit) on a wild trout just for the extra earthiness.

If you do want to add extra flavourings try ones that complement fish like dill or parsley not rosemary but in my opinion really good, fresh fish needs nothing more than salt, pepper and maybe a squeeze of lemon.
Reply:That is an incomplete sentence.

Or your a jokester...
Reply:fillet the trout melt some butter(lightly salted about 3tbs per fillet)in a Fry pan at med high heat place fillet skin down, lightly salt and pepper.cook until flaky squeeze fresh lemon juice on them and serve

How much money can you make selling Rosemary?

Well, if you are going to grow and sell rosemary might I suggest that you also grow other herbs to go along with the rosemary. Like thyme , basil ,dill and chives for example. those are all high dollar per ounce items(check and see what the grocery store charges for just a 1/4 of an ounce). I was a chef for 15 years and have grown dependant on cooking with fresh herbs. I then would check and see what suppliers charge for them(for example a company like Sysco) and charge a little less. Then I would go to some local fine dining resturants and speak to the executive chef and try to establish a deal/contract for him to purchase your product using the tactic that you are a "local" grower and can deliver "whenever" he/she needs a delivery. And in turn he/she is supporting a local business. And also add the little tidbit that you take great pride in the care and growing your herbs naturally. When I was executive chef at a 3 star bistro I not only bought my herbs from a local grower but I also bought tomatoes green beans and a few other veggies from a local farmer and the difference in taste was so much better. And ,for me, knowing I supported a local business man instead of supporting a corporate giant gave me good feeling that I was helping the local economy. Best of luck to you,friend..........

How much money can you make selling Rosemary?
I don't know, is Rosemary good looking?

Seriously, though it will depend on what you do with it. Fresh will be hard to sell enough of it to do much. Dried and packaged, you might have a small gold mine. Almost all spices bring good prices, even at wholesale. If I was doing and had the ground, I would not limit myself to one spice. thyme, basil, coriander (also called cilantro) garlic, and other spices that can be grown bring good prices. Garlic is particularly easy to grow and brings a good price in many varieties from fresh to ground to extracts.
Reply:The key to your question is "make Money" by this I assume you mean profit. Fresh rosemary can bring from $8.00 to $20.00 per pound if quality and service are unusually good. By the time you deduct cost of growing, cleaning, packaging, selling, delivering, accounting, collecting on debits, paying taxes you will find yourself working 80 hrs a week to get deeper in debit. If you have really cheap labor, cheat on your taxes (not recommended) and deliver by bicycle you could make it work.
Reply:depends on how good looking she is
Reply:You might want to inquire at some of your local restaurants. Chefs are starting to look for locally grown produce more and more. There are a lot of recipes that call for using rosemary sprigs as skewers. Find out what they are looking for and take them some samples. Just be sure that you can deliver what they want consistently, in the quality and quantities they demand.

Rosemary has spit on it. Looks like someone has been spitting on my rosemary %26amp; ants are all over it to.?
Noone is spitting on your rosemary. well, no person, that is. what you see are spittlebug masses.

MEADOW SPITTLEBUG.

Philaenus spumarius

greenish bugs found within spittle masses suck sap.

No noticeable plant injury has been documented.

common from april to july.

hose it off with strong blast of water. it won't be back until next year.
Reply:You need to spray with either liquid seven or malathion. This will take of all of that.
Reply:There is also an insect called a "Spittle Bug". Could be that. Weird, huh? There is usually only one bug per spot of "spittle". So you could blast it with a hose or you could spray something like Malathion or insecticidal soap.

Many insects secrete a sugary substance that ants cultivate. So, when you see ants that is a secondary problem and indicates other insects.

Good luck :-)
Reply:Aphids produce a "honeydew" substance that ants eat. The ants will tend the aphids as if they were mini-livestock. If you get rid of the aphids, the ants and the "spit" will vanish. There are several non-toxic ways of getting rid of aphids. These will get rid of the aphids without causing harm to beneficial insects such as ladybugs and bees, the birds, your pets, your children and yourself. One effective option is a soap spray. You can make it at home, using a very dilute soap and water mixture; put it in a spray bottle and give the rosemary a good drenching, covering the entire plant until the soap spray is running off. You can also buy insecticidal soap sprays in a plant nursery or many major yard and garden centers. Another option is a horticultural oil spray. This is a nontoxic, nonpetroleum oil spray that kills the pests by suffocating them rather than poisoning them. That's good because not only will you not have toxic chemicals in your garden, but the bees and ladybugs that visit your rosemary later won't be killed by the oil residue on the plant. I think the soap option is the easiest, and it is quite effective. Good luck!
Reply:You have aphids and you need to buy aphid spray. You can buy it at walmart or any nursery. Take a piece of your rosemary in and show it to the garden consultant in the nursery.
Reply:You have aphids and the ants are eating the aphids or farming them.
Reply:Actually, there is a bug called a spittlebug. I have seen them on plants from time to time but not in the garden. The ants are not causing this spittle. They may the predators that are after the critter in the middle of this spittle.

Whats on my organic Rosemary bush?

white globs of something inbtwn the leaves, not the entire plant but enough to get your attention. I hit it with the water hose and it fell off, but not right away. I live in the desert if thats a clue. I saw a mouse like thing too, I did not know that mice or what ever it was could scale a wall . it ran btwn a crack eeeew! maybe it was after someting else in my garden.

Whats on my organic Rosemary bush?
Sounds like whiteflies, if they're fuzzy. If it looks like spit, then it's what we call "spittlebugs". (Google Images should show you pics of both.) Either of them can cause great damage to your plant, and will keep returning if you only hit them with water. I suggest a spray made with water and garlic (gallon of water, one whole garlic bulb; boil, strain, pour into spray bottle); spray the plant liberally every day, and you should see some improvement.

BTW, the mouse-like thing sounds like it may be a vole of some sort. Any rodents, however, can ruin a garden, so be careful.
Reply:Bill Clinton??? hahahaa
Reply:I don't know what they're called. They may be some kind of psyllid. But, they form a kind of fuzzy shell and cling to plants. The shell also protects them from insecticides. Spray them off with a high-pressure spray (not enough to harm the plant) to knock them off and then spray the plant with a general insecticide. If you want to stay organic, use a very diluted solution of dishwashing soap and water (a tablespoon per gallon or so). If they come back, do it again.
Reply:They are some kind of spider or bug. But I don't know the name of them. I have them too. I live in CA Central Valley where it gets really hot too.
Reply:oh my gosh!!!!! how could u do that to such an innocent plant??? i would just go ahead and kill it now than to let it suffer through whatever its going through!!!!! how awful!!!! how would u feel if i did that to u???!!!!! poor plant!!!! i should call floral services on u!!!!!! shame!!!! shame!!!!

Does rosemary oil kill ticks?

Concerned about Lyme Disease. Looking to rid pine trees in yard of harmful ticks. Do not live near deer, should I bother having trees sprayed with rosemary oil?

Does rosemary oil kill ticks?
I have done some research and the could not find any good natural answers . A good site I cannot remember recommended only one non organic product which was pymethrins which is found in a lot of flea and tick products. I found a 36 percent concentrate and have been spraying every two to three week to control a tick problem that came with a pound puppy we adopted. It works fairly well at higher strengths as recommended on the label.
Reply:Rosemary oil won't kill them. You can keep them away by using lemon euculyptus on your body. For keeping them out of the yard best thing is keep the grass cut short and don't have standing water or put out bird seed which attract not only birds but deer. Both critters carry ticks along with some rodents.

If you have only pine trees is your yard I wouldn't worry much. Ticks don't get up in the trees. They stay close to the ground mostly in shrubs, brush and plants like blackberry vines and honeysuckle. They want to be in plants that attract mammals and are low to the ground so they can drop onto the host animal.
Reply:No, it doesn't work very well. The best thing to do is wear long sleeved shirts and pants, tuck your pants into your boots, and wear a hat. Check yourself when you get home, it takes a while for Lyme disease to enter the bloodstream.

How do I save a rosemary plant? Should I re-pot it? What soil should I use?

The plant is in a clay pot and about 2' tall. It hasn't been cared for for the past three or four months (the owner passed away), but we've been getting plenty of rain (in south Louisiana), so I guess it's well watered. I can't see any soil in the pot though, only roots. The plant still looks healthy (green leaves). Should I re-pot it in a bigger pot? How (exactly) do I do that?

I don't know much about gardening, any help would be great.

How do I save a rosemary plant? Should I re-pot it? What soil should I use?
Rosemary comes from the Mediterranean so it likes poor soil, good drainage and lots of sun. It you tap it out of its pot and the roots go round and round, tease them out or they will continue to grow that way . Just move it into a slightly larger pot. Don't use too rich a compost and make sure you put stones or broken pieces of clay pot (if you have any) into the bottom of the pot for drainage.
Reply:Just go buy a pot that is about 2" bigger in diameter than the pot it is in. Make sure there is a hole in the bottom of the pot. Then buy a little bag of potting soil. Make sure it is potting soil. You should be able to pull the whole plant and root ball out of its current pot, then just put it in the new pot and fill all the empty spaces with the potting soil and then water it right away. It's really easy you'll do just fine.
Reply:Rosemary is a REALLY easy plant to grow and is NOT delicate!!! You can plant it into a larger pot or you can plant it into the ground (make sure that the soil drains well!!). You can even take off a new (not woody) branch and stick into soil and create a new plant!!! (Start now and you will have some nice plants to give as presents at Christmas!!) Maybe some of the relatives would like to have a "start" from the owners plant!!

Don't water too much, make sure that the soil drains well!!

Good Luck!!

Does anyone have a recipe for Parmesan and Rosemary biscuits?

When I make them,

I use the standard bisquick or another biscuit recipe, and I would add about 1/2 c fresh grated parmesan, and about 3 tbs of dried rosemary (that I crush between my fingers first), these are also great with extra parmesean sprinkled on top, and about 1Tbs of garlic powder in the mix.

You can also do this with any standard bisquit recipe. Just mix all the ingredients first, and add between 1/2 and 1 cup of parmesan at the end of mixing.

Bake as usual

Press out on lightly floured work surface to 8-inch round, about 1 inch thick. Using 2-inch-diameter cutter, cut out biscuits. Repeat, gathering and pressing out dough and cutting biscuits until all dough is used. Arrange biscuits on prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup cheese.

Bake until biscuits are puffed and light golden and tester inserted into centers comes out clean, about 15 minutes. Transfer biscuits to towel-lined basket and serve warm.

I bought a really good artisan bread called "rosemary batard bread", but how do you pronounce "batard"?

I've had it before in Italian restaurants I believe, but what exactly is its origin? And its pronunciation seems obvious enough, but I have a feeling it's kind of tricky. I'm sensing maybe French? It's not in the dictionary! I don't know why I'm obsessing over this on a Sunday morning......... Thank you!

I bought a really good artisan bread called "rosemary batard bread", but how do you pronounce "batard"?
The Bastard Baguette

"Batard" is the French word for the English "bastard".1 In both languages, these words refer to illegitimacy, or what Dictionary.com states as "something of irregular, inferior, or dubious origin."

Batard (emphasis on the -tard) in bread circles refers to an inferior baguette, typically half the length and many times the width of a classic baguette. (Traditional baguettes are about 2 inches in diameter and anywhere from 15 to 40 inches in length.) The long slender shape of a baguette maximizes the crust to bread ratio, but requires more time and labor to achieve than its squat batard cousin.
Reply:I think that it is pronounced "bah-tar" with a silent "d", but it is probably OK to Americanize it and pronounce the "d".
Reply:Its pronounced just the way its spelled. batard. It has nothing to do with bastard!

Alternative to cooking with rosemary?

i like rosemary but if i breathe it i get a shortness of breath and discomfort. if i eat it i get red, my throat and chest tighten up and get light headed i could pass out. any combination of herbs to use instead?

Alternative to cooking with rosemary?
We're in the same boat pal!! It seems like you are allergic to rosemary and so am I! There are many things you can use! I love Mrs.Dash seasonings...no rosemary!! Just try a lot of seasonings most will have what to use them with on the back! Just be careful using "Italian seasonings" most include rosemary!! Finally be adventurous in your seasonings trials!! A little can go a long way!! =)

Good luck!!
Reply:There are many-experiment until you know what you like. As a start you could try thyme, basil, summer savory and dill.
Reply:I don't think pine needles are edible, but that's what rosemary reminds me of
Reply:Try switching to savory. It is a aromatic herb similar to a cross between thyme and rosmary in flavor. Hopefully your allergy is just to rosemary and not other herbs.

How can i get mealy bugs and spider mites off my rosemary plants without using harsh chemicals?
I have heard that you can soak tobacco (like chewing tobacco) in water for a couple of weeks (like you are making sun tea) and then spray it on... I haven't tried it, so you might want to research it first.
Reply:don't use tobacco - it's really toxic to humans and pets. You can buy predatory insects that you release in your garden to eat up the pests. Read: http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/factshee...

beleive it or not, there are lots of websites that sell insects mail order!

Reply:Seven Spray! Get the concentrate!
Reply:i always use water with wash up liquid seems to work x
Reply:I use a mixture of water and washing up liquid and spray that on. Is safe for you if your going to use the rosmary and all importantly if birds eat the bugs it's not as harmful to them as are chemicals. Using chemicals kills off a lot of helpful bugs too. If you see ladybirds, etc these are a "good" bug as they eat the aphids :)
Reply:I use meths diluted in water for mealy bugs.

If a small infestation I dab the bugs with this solution on a cotton bud but if a lot I put the solution in a spray bottle and spray them.

I suppose methylated spirits are a chemical but as it is alcohol it evaporates leaving no harmful trace after the treatment

Spider mites do not like water and are easily knocked off so using a forceful jet of water from a hose (syringing) often works. But I find spraying mild detergent i.e washing up liquid works best
Reply:Use rubbing alcohol diluted 50 50 with water and spray on to the plant
Reply:spray water and dishsoap on them. it is safes way to kill them. a few drops of dishsoap in water works.
Reply:If you are American, baseball bat. If you are English, cricket bat. Neither will require the use of harsh chemicals and both will do the job, no prob. Hope that helps, lol

I live in north GA and have 2 well established rosemary plants in pots until this summer I planted them .?

They are doing very well, I use to winter them in at night and out during the day. Should I cut them back and cover them with mulch or leave them be. I got them from a wild garden about 2 years ago where they wintered outside. It rarely freezes and with the drought I dont expect snow this year. Any advice will be great.

I live in north GA and have 2 well established rosemary plants in pots until this summer I planted them .?
They will be fine,. I livein eastern NC right above you and my neighbor has huge rosemary bushes in her yard. Yes bushes, they are that big.
Reply:I live in Massachusetts, and my rosemary winters quite well, the plants are in a sheltered corner, the nights here in the winter often, fall well below freezing, and we get quite a bit of snow... a little mulch and if they are out in the open.. maybe a surround to protect them from the winds.

How do you grow Rosemary?

Rosemary is fairly tolerant of soil and site conditions, although it prefers a light soil - sandy soils are fine. A neutral to slightly limey soil are ideal - the limey soils will produce smaller plants with the leaves being more fragrant. A sunny and sheltered position is best - Rosemary will stand most frosts but try to avoid planting in low-lying areas of the garden.

The herb Rosemary is ideally suited to container culture and will grow happily in potting compost. Attention throughout the year is minimal. Water if the compost is drying out, trim to shape in September if needed, and feed with liquid plant food monthly throughout the growing season. Container grown plants are more likely to affected by severe frosts, so move the containers close to the house walls in winter.

I don't know but it is smoke-able .

Reply:I put a 29 cent seedling in my backyard six years ago, now have a bush the size of a volkswagon. I can't grow anything else, but that literally grows like a weed for me. The dogs have dug out around it, but the plant does not seem to notice. It gets sun in mid day only as it is in the planter and is protected from morning and evening sun; not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Reply:Here's what I did with mine:

I planted a seedling in a pot of sandy soil - I used a self-watering pot. I fill the reservoir whenever it's empty and the soil is bone-dry. I keep it in a sheltered spot that gets plenty of sun, and I bring it inside before the first frost. It goes back out about when daytime highs get around 12ºC and night lows are about 5ºC. Other than that, I leave it alone, and it's a healthy woody shrub right now, with plenty of fresh tender growth on top for whatever I need.

Should my bird have fresh rosemary?
My Birdies eat fresh and dried everything from my garden,so being that Rosemary is an all purpose herb that can be digested daily by humans,it is fine.Get yourself an all purpose herbal book, because herbs are a fine way to get greens in them, and it helps to know which ones.If you can't eat it daily neither can they.

Does Rosemary and Lavender last through the winter? Can they grow outside through the winter?

I live in zone 7, and both are perennials that make it through snow and freezing temps. I have two types of rosemary-officianalis and prostratis-they both make it.

Does Rosemary and Lavender last through the winter? Can they grow outside through the winter?
There are 2 types of Rosemary. One is winter-hardy to -10 degrees F. The other type will die at first frost. Check the link below for a winter-hardy type.

Lavender also survives to 0 degrees F and is deer-resistant (if you have that problem).
Reply:Depends on where you live. At the building where I work here in San Diego, they trim the lavender plants down to about 1-foot stalks in December or January. And, they come back with a vengeance in spring. I also have a friend who has rosemary bushes all over his property. He doesn't do anything to them and they grow year-round.

I have a very nice rosemary plant and it needs cutting back a bit to make the plant fill out a bit.?

Does anybody know if you can freeze the cuttings or do you dry them out and place into bottles. What is the best system if you can save some.

I have a very nice rosemary plant and it needs cutting back a bit to make the plant fill out a bit.?
There's a case to be made for not preserving the leaves from cuttings taken now at all. Having just negotiated winter *and* the plants just having made the huge effort of full flowering, the volatile oils contents in the leaves are at their lowest ebb, so the leaves' culinary usefulness at this pont, compared with the fresh shoots (the ones you're trying to encourage by cutting back in the first place) when more mature in late summer %26amp; early autumn, is debatable.

That said -- waste not want not -- were you to dry the best of the leaves instead, you would that way at least concentrate what volatile oils there are, to produce a quantity of workaday dried rosemary for backgound use in a dish, which could still serve you quite satisfactorily in that role.

Except when in suspension in an already cooked dish, rosemary denatures when frozen, in exactly the same way that it does when the actual plant is ravaged by a prolonged, or intense frost outside.

Hope this helps.
Reply:I would suggest planting the cuttings and making new plants to sell - that's what I would do - are you looking to get rid of the cuttings?? Ha ha.
Reply:GREAT question!

To freeze it, place specific amounts (ie, one teaspoon) in ice trays and fill with water and freeze until needed. That way, you have a teaspoon of rosemary when you need it.

I had a beautiful rosemary plant. I trimmed it and put the cuttings on tomato sauce that went in the freezer, and one cutting in fresh antipasta.

My cat took care of the rest and the plant died.
Reply:I have never tried to freeze my rosemary, although with other herbs, I put them into ice-cube trays w/water and freeze, so I have "herb cubes" when I'm cooking..should work with rosemary. I usually dry mine - either hang the branches up out of the way until dry, or lay out on newspaper until dry...can take up to a week depending on temperature conditions. Then I just back-scrape the rosemary leaves off and store in containers.

If you have a bunch, try just freezing a little of it .. see it it works!

How to use rosemary.?

I am making pork tenderloin and was going to season it with rosemary. Do i pull it off the stems and chop it or use it hole? And if I want to also make some kind of mashed potatoes using garlic, rosemary and ricotta cheese? Anyone know a good recipe using those ingredients? I like to experiment alot! (can you tell??)

How to use rosemary.?
I have never tried Pork Tenderloin but it sounds amusing. I would suggest if the pork is full that you keep it on the stems and stick it in wherever just not so many in the same place. If the pork is pieces than I suggest taking the rosemary off the stems. For mash potatos I would put the garlic in the oven till it just barly bubbles or a little burn't then take the garlic cloves out mash them in the potatos. Put the rosmary in and then mix all together. Then I would take the ricotta cheese and potatos and mix them in a blender but not to much other wise it will be mush potatos instead of mashed. if you still see the white of the ricotta then take a spoon and mix the rest after its in a bowl. I enjoy expirementing myself.

Reply:pull it off the steams, discard the steams, or put them whole into a soup or sauce for flavor
Reply:Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a woody, perennial herb with fragrant evergreen needle-like leaves. It is native to the Mediterranean region. It is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae, which also includes many other herbs.

You can put whole branches of the plant on to the hot coals of a barbecue to flavour the food being cooked, or strip off the leaves and use the stem as a skewer for kebabs (but you will need to pierce a hole in the food with a real skewer first).

When roasting a leg of lamb, branches of fresh rosemary can be laid in the roasting pan directly under the meat to keep it from sticking to the pan, and to infuse the meat with aroma of rosemary. Also strip the leaves off a branch or two, to sprinkle on top of the meat before roasting.
Reply:I recommend cutting small incisions about 1 inch apart along the tenderloin, cutting the rosemary (with the twiggy bit) in small 1-2 cm pieces and sticking them into the incisions just far enough to hold it there with the rest of the rosemary sticking out beautifully. That gives it just the right amount of flavour. I wouldnt use ricotta in ur mash- unless its been put through a mooli then a sieve, cause it will be grainy. Try cream cheese, garlic and make an infused oil with the rosemary and olive oil a couple nights before, and pour that in instead of butter.

Place remaining 2 tablespoons oil in the pan and wilt the onions, celery, garlic and sage over medium-low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring often. Add to the bread cubes along with the fruit.

3. Drizzle the broth over the mixture to moisten. Toss well. Season with salt and pepper. Cool before stuffing the turkey.

Has anyone attended or is attending Choate Rosemary Hall boarding school?

Do you like it? What's it like? What kind of personalities are good for Choate? I've been very interested in Choate for around a year and I was curious on peoples opinions from people who have attended there.

Has anyone attended or is attending Choate Rosemary Hall boarding school?
Choate is known as an "artsy" school. But this does not mean that they have crappy academics. In fact, they're far from crappy (more than 200 couses to choose from). It's probably more relaxed though, compared to other schools of its caliber. There are a lot of students (for me anyway) and the buildings are scattered everywhere. The campus is pretty much near urban areas - students cross roads to get to class. They say dorms aren't that big, but they do have internet access and telephone ports. Choaties are nice, welcoming and diverse. I think they just got their first kid from the Middle East. 9th graders hang out with seniors, upperclassmen with new 10th graders...you get the idea. They're not at all intimidating.

It's hard to tell which personalities are good for Choate. Like I said, it's a diverse school. In an artist's perspective, he/she could tell it's obviously a great school just by looking at the viewbook. Athletically, like New England boarding schools, ice hockey is a big thing. They recruit heavily and will offer a lot of financial aid if you ever need it. There's this girl who's graduating this year, Hillary Knight (?), who is part of the 2006 US Women's Select Team.

It's a great school. Apply and hope for the best.

Good luck.

My young rosemary plants have tiny white things living underneath the leaves that seem to be slowly killing..?
Mealy bugs.

Many sprays available to kill them at Lowes or HomeyD. Water will knock them off using pistol grip attachment. Alcohol on cotton balls will kill them. Disyston is a superior systemic insecticide.

good luck
Reply:Try washing up water, just throw the lot over the plant, and see what happens I did this to Rose bushes and it worked a treat, but I don't really know about the results on Rosemary plants. be interesting to know.
Reply:mix a little washing up liquid with plenty of water and sprinkle the bush, repeat the action a couple of time after a suitable interval
Reply:take the seed burn them down (if these kills them). Then plant new ones. These has been done on black plague and look it worked even if it's radical.
Reply:Your best bet is to make up a water/soap solution and spray it all over, its harmless to the plant and will kill off most types of fly or spider mite and eggs. Keep an eye on the progress and spray fortnightly, it should clear up, if it doesn't maybe try and insecticide, sounds like a type of animal matter !

What can I do about Rosemary Leaf Beetles?

They've ruined my rosemary bush and have started to spread to the sage.

What can I do about Rosemary Leaf Beetles?
This is copied from the UK Royal Horticultural Society - RHS site:

'Rosemary beetle can be controlled either with insecticides or hand picking of adults and larvae. If pesticides are used then these are best applied in late summer to early autumn or in the spring, when the beetles and larvae are active on the plants. Suitable insecticides that can be used include bifenthrin, thiocloprid or imidacloprid. Insecticides should not be used while plants are in flower because of the danger to bees. Only the ready-to-use formulation of thiocloprid (Provado Ultimate Bug Killer Ready to Use) is approved for use on edible herbs.'

They're becoming a growing nuisance in the UK, after spreading in from the continent.

I don't have them, and my Rosemary plants are fine. I don't know whether diluted washing up liquid will work, or other soap based insecticides. These are not poisonous killers, and just kill on contact -always beware of beneficial insects, including ladybirds, bees and lacewings though. A word of warning, a detergent, like washing up liquid, can be harmful to plants! The manufactured soaps for this purpose, are relatively cheap and available from most garden centres etc. But, I have no experience using them on this beetle - the effect works typically on all insects though.

Good luck! Rob
Reply:Try sprinkling some ashes on your rosemary and sage leaves. A friend told me to do that to my potatoes to take care of the potato flea beatles or flea beatles as they are called. It is probably the same kind of beatle just eating on different plants. The ashes can be washed off and it's not like it would hurt you if you ingested any as compared with chemical products.

Growing Chives and Rosemary?

I bought seed for chives and rosemary and I plan on planting them today. I've never grown anything before so I figured herbs would be easier for me. Can anyone give me some basic information on how to go about this? Or any tips?

Do I water them a lot, or let them dry out?

Growing Chives and Rosemary?
Keep the planted seeds moist, in seed pots or a seed tray, and covered with glass etc, to help with this. Now is a good time to sow them.

Rosemary is a fairly tough plant, and can stand drier soil, once established, as it will grow to a mini shrub, with light blue flowers in early spring time.

Chives are fairly easy too - just give them a sunny spot, keep watered, as they are fairly shallow rooted, and they also flower with some beautiful lilac flowers through much of the summer -depending on how often they are cut.

Once your seeds sprout, I'd move them to individual pots, and grow on for a couple of months, before planting into the garden. Both love sunny spots, and longer deeper watering is better than very frequent shallow watering - although when young, ensure that they don't dry out during summer time.

Overall, after sowing your seeds, they don't need to swim in water, but keep them from drying out, as the seeds need to absorb water, in order to swell and send their roots out and downwards - if they dry out at this stage, the roots shrivel up. The Chives could also be sown 3 or 4 seeds to a pot, and left to grow on like this, and planted out as small groups later.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

I have paprika, oregano, basil and rosemary an. I want to make some Italian vegetarian food. Any suggestions ?

I am looking for Italian vegetarian recipes. Please help. With minimal additional ingredients I wan to make something simple, spicy and tasty. Also someone please suggest me recipe for simple pizza.

I have paprika, oregano, basil and rosemary an. I want to make some Italian vegetarian food. Any suggestions ?
You can do some eggplant dishes.

The very simplest of pizzas is to buy already made pizza dough at the store and top it with some seasonings and some goat cheese or any other kind of cheese you like and drizzled with some olive oil - you can also top it with some already cooked eggplant slices - yum that would be good!
Reply:Ask an Italian vegetarian or you could see if there is a website for Vegetarian food. For the pizza side, make your own dough and put on it what you want within reason.

Reply:One simple Mediterranean inspired dish I make is the following:

Sun dried tomato and mushroom pasta

1-2 cloves garlic

16 oz mushrooms (I like crimini or portabello)

~10 reconstituted and sliced sun dried tomatoes (keep water or wine for later use)

white wine (a Pino Grigio works well)

olive oil

basil (fresh)

oregano (fresh)

Asaigo or Pecorino Romano cheese

whole wheat pasta (cooked)

Heat a few Tablespoons Olive oil in saute pan (medium heat). Add minced garlic to the pan and cook until slight translucent. Add sliced mushrooms and let them cook down. When the mushrooms have lost their water and have finished cooking down, add wine and the retained sun dried tomato liquid to the pan (enough to just cover the bottom). At the same time add sun dried tomatoes. When the mixture is heat through toss with the cooked pasta. Add the fresh basil and oregano to the pasta and toss again. Add a little more olive oil if the pasta looks dry. Top with some grated cheese.

I tried to estimate amounts of the ingredients, but you can adjust the amount of any ingredient up or down based on your personal tastes. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of written true Italian recipes if my family is the rule. Most of my knowledge comes from watching my great-grandmother, grandmother, father, and mom cook family dishes. I was taught to make marinaras and pastas by look and taste rather than specific amounts. I find though the key to good Italian is simple ingredients and simple preparation (and of course lots of garlic).

For the pizza, all you need is a base dough and then there are no more rules. The classic pizza is the Margarita which just has tomoto, basil, and cheese.

Good Luck!

2 tablespoons honey

2 teaspoons finely grated lemon peel

Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes to reduce slightly. You can add a little flour or cornstarch to thicken sauce if desired. Return chicken to the saucepan and heat through.

Makes 4 Servings

Serving Size: 1 breast
Reply:Dredge the breasts in flour and soutee them in EVOO til brown. Remove from pan. In same pan, make a roux with your remaining oil and little flour. Deglaze the pan with chicken stock and white wine. Stir until the sauce is thick and bubbly, add a little butter and salt and pepper to the sauce. Return the chicken to the pan with the rosemary and lemon juice.

Chicken Stew with Lemon and Rosemary Recipe courtesy

chicken - roughly 2 1/2 pounds

Kosher salt, plus 1 teaspoon

Freshly ground black pepper

1 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

4 carrots, sliced into 1-inch bias cut (about 1 1/2 cups)

4 celery ribs, cut into 1-inch bias cut (about 1 1/2 cups)

2 sprigs rosemary

1 lemon, juiced

2 1/2 cups chicken broth, homemade or low-sodium canned

3/4 cup frozen pearl onions, thawed

2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Buttered noodles, accompaniment

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

Season the chicken generously with salt and pepper. Heat the oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a Dutch oven (12-inch diameter) over medium-high heat. Lay half of the chicken pieces skin-side down in the skillet. Cook the chicken, until golden-brown on both sides, turning once, about 8 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Repeat with remaining chicken.

Reduce the heat to medium, add the carrots and celery, and cook until just tender, about 10 minutes. Add the rosemary, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute more. Add the lemon juice, and scrape up any browned bits that cling to the pan with a wooden spoon. Add the broth, onions, lemon zest, and 1 teaspoon salt and bring just to a boil.

Return the chicken skin-side up to the pot, taking care that the skin is just over the surface of the liquid, and then put the stew in the oven. Cook, uncovered, until the chicken is cooked through, tender, and lightly glazed and brown, about 40 minutes. Baste the chicken occasionally in the last 20 minutes of cooking. Meanwhile, use a fork to work the remaining 2 tablespoons butter into the 2 tablespoons flour to make a paste.

Remove the stew from the oven. Remove and discard the rosemary and arrange all the vegetables and chicken (reserving the juices in the pan) in a serving dish/bowl. Place the Dutch oven over medium heat and whisk the butter/flour mixture into the juices until dissolved. Bring to a boil and simmer until thickened. Pour sauce over the chicken and serve immediately over buttered noodles.

Lemon rosemary chicken

5 large lemons

Gray salt

6 boneless chicken breast halves, skin on

Freshly ground black pepper

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

1 1/2 pounds small new potatoes, such as red bliss, halved

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves

2 cups double-strength chicken stock, or 2 cups canned low-salt chicken broth boiled until reduced by half

1/4 cup finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, optional

Rosemary sprigs, for garnish

Preheat the broiler.

Cut a small slice off both ends of each lemon, and then cut in half crosswise. Arrange the lemons, flesh side up, in a flameproof nonreactive baking dish, and season with salt. Broil 6 inches or more from the heat until browned and soft, about 10 minutes. Cool slightly. Squeeze the lemon halves over a sieve suspended over a bowl. Push and stir the pulp through the sieve with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon to get as much juice out as possible. Discard the lemon peels.

Reduce oven temperature to 425 degrees F.

Season chicken with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add the chicken, lower the heat to medium, and cook, turning once, until brown on both sides, about 5 minutes. Remove chicken to a plate or baking sheet.

Return the pan to medium-high heat, add the potatoes, season with salt and pepper, and cook, stirring and tossing, until brown all over, about 10 minutes. Drain off the excess oil. Arrange the chicken breasts on top of the potatoes and place in the oven until potatoes and chicken are cooked through, about 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the chicken to a platter and put the pan with the potatoes over medium-high heat. Toss well so the pan juices are absorbed into the potatoes. Scrape the potatoes out of the pan onto the platter around the chicken.

Return the pan to medium-high heat, add the garlic and rosemary, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add 1 cup of chicken broth and reserved lemon juice. Stir and scrape up all the browned bits that cling to the bottom and sides of the pan, and then add the remaining 1 cup broth. Bring to a simmer stir in parsley and season to taste with salt and pepper. If the sauce tastes too lemony, stir in the optional butter. Pour the sauce over the chicken and potatoes and serve immediately, garnished with rosemary sprigs

Chicken with Rosemary and lemon salt

2 chickens, about 2 to 3 pounds each

3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 or 2 fresh rosemary sprigs

1 1/2 lemons, cut into chunks

Seasoned Salt:

2 tablespoons very finely minced lemon zest

2 tablespoons minced fresh rosemary

2 tablespoons sea salt, preferablyy gray salt

Freshly ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F if you have no convection fan, or to 425 degrees F if you have a convection fan.

Rinse the chickens inside and out and dry well.

Make the salt: In a bowl, combine the lemon zest, rosemary, salt, and pepper, mixing well. Rub the chicken all over with the olive oil, and then rub with 3 tablespoons of the seasoned salt. (Reserve the remaining salt for another use.) Tuck the rosemary sprigs and lemon chunks into the chicken cavity. You don't need to truss the chicken.

Place the bird on a rack in a roasting pan and roast for 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature by 75 degrees F and continue roasting until the juices run clear when a thigh is pierced with a skewer, about 50 to 55 minutes longer. Transfer the chicken to a platter and let rest for at least 10 minutes before carving.

What else can I use rosemary in?

At the moment my only use for it is to season baked fish.

What else can I use rosemary in?
chicken, pork, roasted potatoes, and my favorite:

FOCACCIA BREAD

One package active dry yeast

Two cups warm water (105-110 degrees)

9 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Five cups all-purpose flour

One tablespoon kosher salt

Three tablespoons plus one teaspoon chopped rosemary

Combine the yeast, water and four tablespoons of the oil in a bowl and rest for five minutes. Mix the flour, half of the rosemary and the salt in a bowl. Then mix in the water and knead the dough for ten minutes. Brush a large stainless steel bowl with olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, turning it once to coat it evenly, cover with a cloth and rest for an hour and a half. Now you must decide how you wish to shape the bread. You can spread the dough into a 12 X 18 pan for a thinner loaf. I use a 10 X 13 pan that is two inches deep for a thicker loaf. Oil the pan, spread out the dough and rest for one more hour. With your hands spread, using your fingers, poke holes across the top of the dough. Drizzle the remaining olive oil, rosemary, and a little more salt on the top. Place it into a preheated 400 degree oven for approximately 25 minutes. Keep an eye on it, (especially to ensure the bottom is not burning), and adjust the heat if need be. Ovens can vary a great deal. When finished, dip pieces of the bread in extra-virgin olive oil seasoned with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Reply:Rosemary is such a versatile herb. Lovely with lamb, snip into lamb mince with garlic, grated lemon jest and juice, black pepper and salt for really tasty lamb kebabs or meatballs. Sprinkle over potatoes whilst roasting. You can flavour ice-cream with it, but don't use too much, and if you pour boiling water on a few fresh 'branches' of leaves and let it go cold it'll soothe sunburn and makes a lovely rinse for your hair, adds shine.
Reply:Oh, rosemary is so good for poultry. A little olive oil and rosemary is my favorite marinade for chicken and for turkey breast. Delicious!

Rosemary Roasted Pork Tenderloin

An easy and delicious pork tenderloin recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

2 pork tenderloins, about 2 pounds

3 tablespoons fresh rosemary, or about 1 tablespoon dried

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 cloves garlic, halved

salt and pepper to taste

PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 400°. Line a baking pan with foil, spray with cooking spray and place in oven. Trim fat from pork tenderloins and butterfly the meat, cutting them nearly in half lengthwise. Open the pork tenderloins and lay out, pounding to flatten with the palm of the hand or the bottom of a heavy skillet. Chop rosemary if using fresh. Rub pork tenderloins all over with cut sides of garlic halves then olive oil, then sprinkle rosemary on both sides.

Remove baking pan from the oven and place pork on hot tray. Return to oven and roast for about 20 minutes (about 155° to 160° internal temp). Remove and let stand 5 minutes, then slice.
Reply:I Use rosemary cut up in corn bread, i use it to make herbed chicken with melted butter rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper and lemon juice, i use rosemary in rice mixtures, and i use it in chicken stock to make soup.. but my favorite is i heat 2 cups of olive oil on low and add 4 stalks of rosemary in the oil and slowly cook but dont boil for 30-40 mins and i have rosemary infused olive oil... i use this for tons of dishes and it keeps for weeks or months properly stored, dont worry about the stalks the rosemary comes off and u throw the stalks away...
Reply:Soups, pasta, and salads too
Reply:Marinate chicken breast in olive oil, rosemary, and garlic for 24 hours, then grill the chicken breast then bake it till cooked thoroughly. Also you could add it to your olive oil for a bit of extra delicious flavor in anything you add your oil to (ex. salads, anything you may pan sear, you can also dip warm garlic bread in the oil) You can chop it up real fine and sprinkle it on your pizza. Marinate pork in it. Rosemary is a wonderful herb when known how to use it properly.
Reply:I use it in pasta sauce, roasted chicken, roasted potatoes, actually just about any potatoes I cook. Only hint is watch out how much you use because it is strong.
Reply:rosemary is great on roasted chicken, in breads, on lamb and veal.
Reply:cooking stuff!
Reply:Lamb and Rosemary is a very traditional combination. You can either lay the sprigs around the joint of meat in the roasting dish or place them on top of the joint.

Along the roasting lines, some people like to put sprigs of Rosemary with their roast potatoes. Just roast them as normal but put the sprigs in the roasting tray.
Reply:Rosemary is indispensable in roasted potatoes.

Chop new or young Yukon Gold potatoes into large-bite sized pieces. Add a GENEROUS amount of rosemary, some coarse salt and fresh cracked pepper, and maybe a little thyme and cumin, and then drizzle virgin olive oil over it all and mix with your hands until the potatoes are well coated.

Roast them in a medium hot oven (425-450 degrees) until crispy--maybe 35-40 minutes.

Yumm.
Reply:I use it on lamb, in turkey stuffing, and on any kind of poultry. I've never tried it on fish before, but I'll have to give that a try! :)
Reply:Rosemary is really good with quarted red skin potatoes, tossed with olive oil and baked.
Reply:you could always use it in a song, Scarborough fair.
Reply:Use rosemary twigs when making up a smoke-mix for chicken, pork or fish.

Get a metal pan, cover the base in foil, make up equal parts tea-leaves, brown sugar and rice to cover bottom of pan. add rosemary and or thyme. Cover this layer in foil. Add fish, chicken, pork etc portions and subject to high heat with lid on for 10-15 min depending on size/thickness. A good way for hot smoked mackerel or salmon!

Try adding it to the cream/milk mix with vanilla pod when you're boiling it up to add to egg yolks and sugar to make ice-cream. Also works well with lavender. Remember to sieve out before stirring into the yolk/sugar mix!
Reply:potatoes, chicken, turkey, i really do not know of any limits with rosemary
