Is my rosemary bush dead?

it's potted, indoors, watered weekly. in a sunny window, but needles have turned brown.

Is my rosemary bush dead?
Even if it's dead, the leaves can still be used in cooking! Strip the bush of the needle-like leaves, rinse them, and lay them out on a tray. Put them in the oven for a few minutes on about 350 degrees, and then take them out and let them cool. Not only will your kitchen smell great, but you can use these leaves in future dishes!

In the spring go buy another rosemary bush...
Reply:Sounds dead. Have you been misting the leaves too?
Reply:its dead, rosemary is an evergreen.
Reply:It sounds like your rosemary bush has expired. I killed mine too.
Reply:If the branches are dryt ans snap when you bend them, it is dead. Rosemary is a Mediterranean plant, native to a fairly dry region, and does not like to be watered weekly. I have a huge old one in a pot that I only water sparingly in the winter when it is in the house, just enough to keep it from drying out. In the summer it is outside and gets watered along with everything else, and does fine. It must have good drainage.

It sounds like you may have killed it with kindness, and drowned it by watering too often. The next time you get one, only water it when you can stick your finger into the soil in the pot and it is dry to your first knuckle. Don't let it set in a saucer that is holding water, that will also keep the roots too wet and rot will set in. It needs really good drainage and full sun, even indoors.

Don't let it dry out completely, tho, that will kill it also, and very quickly.
Reply:It may very well be dead. Rosemary likes humid conditions and tends to dry out indoors during the winter when the air is the driest. One way to know for sure is to skin a branch or just cut it and see if there is any green. If there is green then it is still alive in which case I would prune off the dead parts and resume watering and misting with a spray bottle several times a day. If there is no green then it is dead and can be added to the compost or trash.

Good Luck
