12x24 room rosemary green?
well ,if its already painted green and its located in the back yard, then id say the best idea would be to give it a conservatory/sunroom feel. you could make it look a little tropical, but dont go overboard. lots of plants (how many windows in the room) if not much natural sunlight you could grow bamboo. if lots of light, you can grow just about anything. use bamboo, rattan or wicker furniture. if you have a nice big window, how bout building a window seat? you could make the seat lift up for storage. (is this room still gonna be used partly for storage?) its a nice place to sit and read and have a coffee and watch the birds--hang a birdfeeder outside the window. is it carpeted? if not you could put down mats made of flat strips of bamboo--theyre very nice looking and stand up to wear and tear well. the colors that would go best with this shade of green are tan, sandy beige, off-white, ivory, and use dark red and black as a splash of bold color here and there (cushions, art-work, vases, etc.) put a bookshelf in the room and it could become your own private library--a retreat to come and read whenever you get time. try to avoid floral patterns that would be overkill in a room thats full of plants. and especially if your husband is going to be using the room too. try for a more gender-neutral pattern on the fabrics like stripes or geometrics. for window coverings, id use either shutters or bamboo blinds (the roman style blinds are easy to use and look classy). go for a simple rather than a frilly look--then the room can be used by everyone and can be multi-functional, plus you wont get tired of too quickly. you could also put a bar in it with a mini fridge--very convinient. and a few bar stools. be sure and have a couple large ottomans--they can be used as coffee tables, extra seating, and storage chests--very practical. if you can afford it, buy a couple of really large tall plants like a palm or yucca, but put them in the corners so you dont rob too much floor space. smaller plants can be put on shelves and tables and can cascade over the edges of high shelves and ledges. all you need is a coffe pot and a tea kettle and a sound system, and you're set. hope this gave you a few good ideas. please do your husband and sons a favor and dont turn it into a "girly room"
Reply:I'd use standing screen to "divide" the room. You'll need plenty of space for the pool table. For that side of the space I'd put in bench seating against the wall, put up the cue rack, maybe a dart board, etc, just "poolroom" type of decor. Depending on what you want to use the other side of the room for would determine your decor there.
